About the designer

Lino Tagliapietra (born August 10, 1934, in Murano, Italy) is widely regarded as one of the greatest living masters of glassblowing. Hailing from the historic glassmaking island of Murano, he began his apprenticeship at the remarkably young age of 11, training under legendary maestro Archimede Seguso. He earned the title of Maestro by the age of 21—an extraordinary achievement in the rigorous Venetian tradition. In 1979, Tagliapietra made his first visit to Seattle at the invitation of Dale Chihuly, where he taught a groundbreaking workshop at the Pilchuck Glass School. By sharing the closely guarded secrets of traditional Muranese techniques with American students, he sparked a transformative cross-cultural exchange that profoundly influenced the development of contemporary studio glass in the United States-. Now n his 90s, with more than seven decades of unparalleled experience, Maestro Tagliapietra continues to divide his time between his native Murano and Seattle. He remains an active force in the field, pushing the boundaries of glass as both a technical virtuoso and an innovative artist—creating breathtaking works that blend centuries-old craftsmanship with bold, modern creativity, inspiring generations of makers and collectors alike.
