About the manufacturer

Originally launched in 1933 as Barovier, Seguso & Ferro, the name was officially changed to Seguso Vetri d'Arte (which translates to "Seguso Art Glass") in 1937. Known today as simply Seguso, it's one of the oldest, most celebrated glassmaking dynasties on the island of Murano, Venice, with an uninterrupted family lineage of over 23 generations.

In 1291, the Venetian government ordered all glass furnaces to move to the island of Murano to protect Venice's wooden buildings from fires. To protect the lucrative secrets of trade glassmaking, the Republic implemented incredibly strict laws: Master glassblowers were elevated to nobility and written into the Libro d'Oro (Golden Book of Murano). However, they were forbidden from leaving the Republic under penalty of death. Because families were physically confined to the island for centuries, the craft was strictly passed down from father to son, cementing long genealogical dynasties like the Segusos.
