About the designer

Luciano Frigerio (1928-1999) was an Italian designer, artist and musician, born in Desio. His father Giovanni had opened a small cabinet-making workshop there in 1889, and in the 1960s Frigerio turned it into Frigerio di Desio, a company with an international reputation. Through visits to craftsmen’s studios he met masters such as Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli and Tapio Wirkkala. He is best known for his “Mobili Scultura” and “Letti Scultura” (sculpture furniture and sculpted beds), which combined materials such as solid wood and bronze. He also asked architects and designers including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti and Paolo Portoghesi to design numbered, signed pieces for his workshop. In 1973 he was named Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana.
