About the firm
Studio Nizzoli e Associati was an Italian design and architecture firm founded in 1965 by Mario Oliveri, continuing the legacy of Marcello Nizzoli after his departure from active work. The studio, based in Milan, brought together collaborators like Alessandro Mendini and Paolo Viola, focusing on industrial design, lighting, urban planning, and architecture. The firm became known in the late 1960s and 1970s for innovative lighting pieces produced by Stilnovo, such as the iconic Goletta model (1969) and the wall/ceiling lamp model 1369—early examples of plastic (ABS) and aluminum use in pop-influenced, functional design. The firm also handled larger-scale projects, including rationalist-inspired residential neighborhoods and urban developments, blending rigorous modernist principles with colorful, decorative elements.
